Individual Savings Accounts

An Individual Savings Account (ISA), is a financial product that allows you to save or invest money while allowing people to earn tax free interest, while also not having to worry about dividends or capital gains tax. There are many different ISA options that are available, with different limits on deposits. When putting money away, it is important that we analyse your financial goals to find an account and strategy that takes full advantage of the tax free interest rate available with an ISA allowance.

General Investment Accounts

There are many different general savings accounts out there, and they all have their own benefits and pitfalls. Unlike Individual Savings Accounts, General Investment Accounts (GIAs) aren't tax free so ant income or interest they generate is subject to income tax and gains you make when you sell can also be subject to capital gains tax or income tax.

Many GIAs provide access to a wide range of funds and objectives. Before investing it is therefore important to analyse every option available. The right account for you will depend entirely on your personal circumstances, and your financial adviser will work with you to discuss each option available to find a GIA that is going to meet your needs both now and into the future.

On Shore Bonds

On Shore Bonds are investments that are technically life insurance products. Many of the main stream insurance companies provide them so there is a wide range of options available. They are taxed under UK Corporation Tax and the growth of the underlying funds is deemed to have tax at 20% deducted, so that for basic rate and non-rate taxpayers no further income tax is likely to be payable.

This makes them very tax efficient for people who are looking for income and/or capital growth. As they only liable to income tax they can provide a great investment for people that are already using their capital gains tax allowances elsewhere for example, or for those higher rate tax payers that may become basic rate tax payers in the future.

Bonds can be used as long-term investments, in estate planning and also in providing tax efficient income. Our financial advisers will assess the suitability of investing in bonds and will ensure that the bond aligns with your overall financial goals.

Off Shore Bonds

An Off Shore Bond is a life insurance policy that is offered by providers that are based outside of the UK, typically the Isle-of-Man or Ireland. Unlike on shore bonds, offshore bonds aren't liable for UK corporation tax so can provide a higher level of growth of the medium to longer term. Income tax is liable on the gains the bond makes but only on partial or full encashment - allowing timing of any tax liabilities to be carefully managed.

They allow for investments to take place across a wide range of assets with this added benefit of "gross roll up" of tax. These bonds offer flexibility, such as switching investments without immediate tax liability and assigning the bond for estate planning purposes. A financial adviser can help you to structure offshore bonds tax-efficiently, manage reporting obligations and ensure they fit your long-term financial and residency plans.

Venture Capital Trusts

Investing in Venture Capital Trusts involves investing in small, early-stage or mid-size businesses, in return for significant tax advantages. Venture Capital Trusts are subject to higher risk than other forms of investments, however, they have benefits such as income tax relief, tax free dividends and no capital gains tax.

Working with one of our financial advisers means that we can asses your individual circumstances for risk tolerance, work with you to select suitable Venture Capital Trusts and ensure that they fit in with your broader investment strategy and tax planning.

When working with us, we can help you navigate the complexities of Enterprise Investment Scheme, assess suitable opportunities and make the most of the tax advantages that are available to you.
